Katoomba is the most significant and celebrated town in the Blue Mountains of Australia. It is approximately 110 kilometres by Car-- Roads are linked via Motorway, and the best route to take is from Sydney heading west on M4 Motorway continuing onto Great Western Highway. Katoomba is surrounded by the magnificent Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.
It is a very old town with some lovely old cafes dating back to the 1920's. Nevertheless, without doubt, the most famous and spectacular view of Katoomba and the Blue Mountains is the view of the Three Sisters, which are the most representative rock formation of this region. One of the main attractions of Katoomba is the famous Scenic Railway, which is the steepest incline railway in the world and is considered one of the most important man-made tourist attractions of the country. With the celebrated "steepest incline railway in the world" (built as a coal mine transport in 1878) down into Jamison Valley.
There is always something on in the Blue mountains including a major Music festival-- It is held over 3 days and is a blend of folk, blues and roots music that features artists from around the world and Australia. You can also visit the famous Carrington Hotel for various events including Oktoberfest, ukulele and Lady Luck Festival. Katoomba is surrounded by the spectacular landscape and forests of The Blue Mountains National Park which in turn sits high up along the Great Dividing Range in New South Wales.

From Echo Point it is about 45 Minutes to reach the Katoomba Cascades, and then from there another 10 Minutes to viewing point of the Katoomba Falls. The cascading waterfalls, breath-taking panoramas, fern filled gullies, hanging swamps, rainforest, an abundance of bird life and magnificent flowers await your discovery.
Get introduced to the animals and plants unique to this region, go on walking trails, a bush-walk, abseiling, rock climbing, caving, take a pick from the skyway, cable-way or hop onto a railway ride at Scenic world for a 360 degree view of the glorious Jamison valley.
The renowned Everglades Gardens - one of Australia's foremost heritage properties is just minutes away. Waratahs are not the only stunning spring flowers at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, in spring you can enjoy dramatic displays of colour with camellias, rhododendrons, tulips, daffodils, bluebells, crocus, lily of the valley, snowflakes and snowdrops to take your breath away.
Katoomba developed as a popular mountain resort town in the early part of the 20th century, a process aided by the advent of regular train services along the current line. In 1980s most of the tourist infrastructure of Katoomba was restored and the city became the main holiday destination of the Sydney's inhabitants.
