A number of positive things happened in the last few months, but let’s first get the bad news out of the way...

After some setbacks at the beginning of this year and a comprehensive re-evaluation process of the company we could never have dreamed that a period in which we had gained substantial support from major artists, our community and a grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs for our first major production Byzantium, would be sub-par. But sub-par it was.

You are aware we were invited in 2013 to participate in an application process to turn the old Katoomba Library into Katoomba's first Theatrical venue by the Blue Mountains City Council.

With a lot of hard work and effort, including thousands of dollars invested by the Katoomba Theatre Company in making a properly drafted submission we have come to an impasse with the Blue Mountains City Council.  Although we were the only applicants to submit a successful proposal to council at the time.

We have heard from sources within council that the new group, predominately made up of members from Hazelbrook, Wentworth Falls, Bulla Burra, Penrith are probably going to win the running of the venue.  We also understand the venue will be managed from Springwood.  Further details about this issue remain shrouded in mystery.  Our letters to council have gone unanswered and our requests information rejected.

So in terms of the comparison we presented to the Katoomba and Blue Mountains community when we began our journey to bring theatre to Katoomba and the Mountains we have unfortunately
been unable to deliver at this time. We remain hopeful.

Now for the positive news.  We are well on our way to staging the companies first major production of an original new Australian play Byzantium, which is scheduled for opening in November 2015 with a 3 week season.
